Genomic Healthcare Strategies receives advice on challenging ethical issues and potential conflicts of interest from an independent Ethics Advisory Board, chaired by Greg Koski, PhD, MD.
As the first director of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), Dr. Koski remodeled the nations system for protection of human research subjects, moving from a reactive, compliance-focused approach to a proactive, prevention-focused system. Under Koskis leadership, the OHRP pursued a systems approach to protection of human research subjects; catalyzed the development of private, voluntary accreditation of human research protection programs; streamlined and simplified the federal assurance process; expanded education and outreach programs; and implemented a new quality improvement program to help entities engaged in human research evaluate and strengthen their human subjects protection programs.
In 2003, Dr. Koski returned to the faculty of Harvard Medical School, which he had joined originally in 1984, and to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he had served as Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Studies and as Director of Human Research Affairs at the Partners HealthCare System. He is currently Senior Scientist, Institute for Health Policy at MGH and Associate Professor, Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Harvard Medical School.
Greg Koski received his PhD and MD in the Harvard-Massachusetts Institute of Technology program in Health Sciences and Technology, and did postdoctoral work in pharmacology at the National Institutes of Health.
He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the International Association of Clinical Research Professionals and chairs its Committee on Government Relations. He is also on the Board of Trustees of the American Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians, where he serves as Vice-President for Ethics and Professional Conduct.
