Nevin M. Summers has a made a career "building with biology". He brings a commercial expertise gained over twenty years in genetic therapy, pharmaceuticals, molecular diagnostics, DNA sequencing, genomics, negotiation, real estate development and entrepreneurship.

Summers is the Life Sciences Specialist at the MIT Sloan School of Management, assisting Corporate Relations with capital initiatives and Executive Education with customized programs for senior business leaders in life science firms. He collaborates with the MIT faculty in management, science, and engineering on developing and funding new research programs that will improve the productivity of the biotechnology, pharmaceutical and medical device sectors. Summers is also Founder and President of Novation, Inc., a consulting firm that provides due diligence, business planning, corporate development, and technology assessment for venture capitalists, universities, and life science companies. In this capacity he has managed projects dealing with whole genome scanning for SNP and haplotype disease biomarkers; functional genomic screening of cDNA libraries for cancer genes; high-throughput drug screening using genetically engineered cells; rational epitope mapping and novel vaccine formulations for cancer and infectious and autoimmune diseases; and targeted delivery of angiogenesis growth factors for heart-tissue repair.

Summers previously held executive positions at biotechnology start-up companies. He served as Chairman and Founding CEO of CISTRAN Corp., which focused on a low-cost whole genome sequencing platform using the technology of co-founder George Church, Professor of Genetics, Harvard Medical School. He was Senior Director for Strategic Planning, Technology Assessment, and Genomics at Hybridon, Inc., a publicly traded firm developing synthetic oligonucleotide drugs, and Business Development Manager of Ingenex, Inc., a start-up engaged in functional genomics and gene therapy for cancer.

Summers studied molecular biology at Johns Hopkins and Stanford as a Westinghouse STS Scholar and earned professional masters degrees in Architecture, Urban Planning and Design at Harvard and in Management of Technology at MIT.
